Little Girl Card

Well, I figured since I posted a little boy card, that I should do one for a little girl too.  Start out with a white card stock base, and then choose two corresponding prints for the front.  Rip the edge of the piece that will have the seem on top.  Wrap a small piece of ribbon around the ripped piece and secure with glue dots on the back of the paper before you glue it down.  I used a small metal heart brad on the ribbon, but you could use a little sticker or flower.  I stamped "Baby Girl" directly onto the paper and then used a little metal frame to accent it.  You could stamp it or print it on your computer and use "Princess" or whatever you want to make it age appropriate.  Have fun!

Another Any Occasion Card

Here's how to make this card:  

-First cut your black card stock in half and fold for the base. 

-Cut out the green card stock to be just smaller than the front of the card and then rip off 

      one of the edges.  Before you glue it to the card, finish everything else on the front of 

      the green.  

-Glue the black polka dotted piece on with the top edge ripped. 

-Wrap the black and pink ribbon around the bottom and secure with glue dots on the back

       of the green. 

-I crinkled up the white paper so it looked worn and then I inked the edges of it before I

       glued it on.   

-Put the small safety pin on and tie the pink ribbon through it with your charm attached.  

      I found these cute keys to use, but you could cut something out of paper or use a 

      flower or pretty much anything.

-Glue the green paper on to the black paper.

-Use a small hole punch to punch the holes for the eyelets and insert the four eyelets.

-Use thread, twine, string, or ribbon and insert through the holes and tie them on the inside 

       of the card and you're done!

Any Occasion Card

Here's a cute card for any occasion.  Choose a paper with a design on one side and plain on the other and fold it so that the design is on the inside of the card.  Don't fold it exactly in half though, leave about one inch of the design showing along the edge.  Then I just used some flowers held together by brads and some white crinkle paper that I stamped "Just for you" on to finish it off.  For the inside of the card, I cut a piece of white paper wide enough to also show from the front and I tore the edge off to give it a worn look. 

Valentine's Day Card

Here is a cute idea for a Valentine's Day card.  Here's what you'll need:

Solid dark pink card stock, cut in half (5 1/2" x 8 1/2")

1 sheet of solid light pink card stock

2 corresponding prints

flower/butterfly/heart embellishment

sheer ribbon

Here are the measurements for the rectangles:

large light pink 4 1/2" x 3 1/4"

large print rectangle 4 1/4" x 3"

small light pink rectangle 3" x 2 1/4"

small print rectangle 2 3/4" x 2"

Glue all the rectangles together, add your embellishment to the front, tie the 

ribbon around the whole thing and then glue it on the dark pink card 

stock and voila you're done!

Any Occasion Card

I love when I have a card that I can use as a birthday card, thank you card, Mother's day card, or whatever I want it to be.  All you need is two corresponding prints, a stripe of solid and a square of white.  I chalked the edges of the white square with red ink, so that the edges were a little more subtle.  Then I used a brad to hook two flowers together and I punched the brad through the white paper as well.  It's easier to be able to just glue on the white square then it is to try to glue the flower to the card.

I sanded the edges of the blue square to give it kind of a worn out look, and I have a flower cut out that I used to do a red and a yellow flower of each size, but you could just cut out two sizes of flowers and put them together with the brad.  I stamped "hello hello" on the red tag, but you could put happy birthday, thank you, or whatever you want!

Corresponding Cards

I always have pieces of random paper laying around from making one thing out of it, so I try to come up with ways to use it for more than one card so that my paper stack doesn't get out of control. :)

Here's what you'll need for these two cards:

                                                    2 corresponding prints

                                                    1 sheet of plain corresponding color

                                                    white/cream paper

                                                    tan/white for card base (8 1/2 x11 sheet cut in half)

                                                    ribbon

                                                    two brads

Here are the dimensions for this card:

Tan base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" folded in half 

Large pink square: 5 5/16" x 3 5/8"

Large cream square: 5 1/16" x 3 3/8"

Small brown & pink squares: 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"

Pink rectangle: 4 3/8" x 1 1/2" (cut off corners)

Cream rectangle: 3 3/8" x 1 1/8" (cut off two corners)

Stamp or print a phrase on the cream rectangle and push the brad through the end of the pink rectangle and then glue it all together a layer at a time.

This card was super easy.  Here's the dimensions for the paper:

Tan base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" folded in half 

Brown striped: 5 1/2 " x 3"

Pink print: 5 1/2" x 1 1/2"

Pink rectangle: 2" x 3 5/8"

Cream rectangle: 1 5/8" x 3 1/4"

Cut the ribbon long enough to wrap it around the paper so that you don't see any fraying edges. It's easiest to use a small hole punch to punch a hole through the ribbon for the brad to go through, or use scissors to cut a small slit.  Then, line up the bottom of the ribbon with the bottom of the brown paper and use two glue dots to secure the ends of the ribbon to the back of the brown paper.  Glue the pink paper to the tan base and then glue the brown paper with the ribbon on to the tan (which will overlap the top of the pink).  I stamped a flower on the cream, but you could use a sticker or print off some clip art.  Have fun!

 

Monochromatic Card

I am totally late on this post. Being a mom of three and a full-time teacher is hectic and sometimes life just gets in the way. But better late than never.

My last post was all about using big and bold patterned paper. This post is the opposite. The pattern is simple and the card is more classic looking. The colors in the card are all monochromatic, which means that all of the colors used in the card are shades of the same color (black and white can also be used). I like monochromatic cards because the colors always coordinate well. This card uses pink, but you could use any color.

        Gather your supplies. A simple patterned paper where the pattern and background are the same color, ribbon, flower, brad, and another paper of the same color but different shade or shades as your patterned paper.
        Cut out your card and fold it in half. Then cut a strip of ribbon the same length as your card. Cut the ends of the ribbon on an angle and glue on the ribbon about an inch from the bottom of the card. You can use glue dots or a glue stick.
        Put a brad through your flower. Then use glue to attach the flower on the left side of the ribbon.
        Cut out a rectangle of paper. Stamp or write your message of choice. Then glue the rectangle above the ribbon on the right. Now you're done.
        The ribbon, flower, and paper create a nice group of three. When making cards you always want to use odd numbers, because an odd number of objects is more pleasing to the eye.

Any occasion card

For this card you can pretty much use 

any 2 coordinating papers and ribbon

that you have on hand.  The flowered 

paper is cut in 2 inch strips and the

solid is a 1 inch strip. I cut the strips

the full length of the card so that 

they overlapped each other when

glued on. I bought a jar of multi-

colored paper flowers that I have 

been using for years . You could 

also cut out flowers from your print

and use those.  When you tie the 

ribbon on open your card flat, lay it

on a cutting board or mat and make a small slit the width of your ribbon on the spine 

of the card. Then pull the ribbon through and tie it in a bow or knot in the front.  Before

I glued my card together, to add a little something more, I pressed the front center of 

my card lightly on my ink pad and then chalked the edges of my flowers. Which means that I just rubbed the edges of the flowers over an ink pad. This adds an extra dimension. You could 

also stamp words or glue something else in the place of the flowers.

Matching Boy & Girl Cards

I love the whole brown and blue/pink look, so when I saw this paper I had to buy it.  These cards are super easy to make.  You'll need two sheets of corresponding prints, a small piece of a solid color, a small piece of white paper and some ribbon. 

I used my brown ink to chalk around the edges of the blue/pink and white paper to give it a border and then stamped "smile" and "celebrate", but you could print off the words from your computer and use a marker to mark the edges if you don't have any stamping supplies.  Use glue dots to hold the ribbon on and you can place it higher up or lower down depending on how you want your paper to show.  My niece loved this card when I gave it to her for her birthday!

Use pictures from an old calendar

I had one of those little desk calendars that had cute pictures on it with a little quote each month.  I decided to cut up the calendar and make it into cards.  I cut out the picture and made a frame for it and used my scalloped scrap booking scissors to cut around it.  The strip of flowers was the bottom border of the calendar.  Then I cut some paper flowers out of some crinkle paper and used some brads that I had on hand.  To make the bottom of the card I used my scalloped scissors and then my two different sized hole punches to create a pattern.  I chalked the bottom of it with my red ink pad so it would show up against the back of the card when folded and I also chalked the edges of the card to create a border all the way around.

Use the same paper for four cards

I loved this paper and thought it would be fun to make multiple cards out of it.  

Here's what you need to make these four cute cards:

3 8x10 sheets of white/
         off-white paper

2 8x10 sheets of a cute flowered
         print

small piece of plain paper in a 

         corresponding color

1 or 2 colors of thin ribbon
5 large brads and 3 small brads
optional: 3 small flowers

                                                                   3 different stamps*

*If you don't have stamps then you can print the words off of your computer on the white paper before you cut it into the one inch strips discussed below.

Cut two of the white papers in half to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 and fold all four pieces in half to make the cards.  Now take your last piece of white paper and cut four one inch wide strips. 

For this card, cut the flowered print to the size of the front of the card and glue on.  Take a one inch strip of white and cut it to the length of the card.  The easiest way I found to attach the ribbon is to wrap it around the edge and tape it.  If it's not laying flat on the front, use a small glue dot to secure it.  To save money we cut the flowers out of the paper and then insert a large brad into the centers.  Arrange the flowers how you want and glue them on.

For this card, tear the edges of about a 2 1/2 inch strip of white and then cut a once inch strip of the flower print to go on top of it.  Stamp Happy Birthday on one of the one inch white strips and cut it smaller.  I had these three flowers that matched the paper, but you could just cut out three of the smaller flowers from the paper and use them with the small brads in the middle.  Arrange how you want and glue on.  A glue dot works well for the flowers.

For this card, use the small piece of the plain corresponding paper and cut a 2 1/2 inch strip.  Cut a two inch strip of the flowered print and rip the top and bottom edge.  Stamp Thinking of You on the one inch white strip and tape the ribbon along the bottom of it.  Cut out a flower and insert a large brad in it and glue it all on. 

For this one, cut the flowered print to the size of the front of the card.  Stamp "Thank You" on the one inch white strip and tape on the ribbon at the bottom.  Cut out a large flower and a small flower from the paper and hold them together with a large brad and glue it all on.

And now you have four cute, easy cards without having to spend very much!
